The Recipe for life

Salt and dough (bread) are essential items of life and in the bible, are used as representations of  essential ingredients to a Christian life.

Salt
Salt preserves and so we are to preserve, not only our own faith, but others as well.

Bread

Jesus, the "bread of life," the source of spiritual life and health.

John 6:35. Then Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty."

Basic Equipment

  • Standard baking equipment including:scales, bowl, rolling pin and baking tray
  • Garlic press
  • Sharpe vegetable knife (plastic for kids)
  • Parchment or cookie paper (greaseproof will stick)
  • Cocktail sticks (as modelling tool and support)
  • Paper clips (or wire) for hanging
  • Cling film and tinfoil
  • Acrylic paints
  • Metal nail file or sandpaper
  • Brushes for paint and varnish/Acrylic paint/Polyurethane varnish/Brush cleaner

Special Equipment
This equipment will allow you to produce better models if you really get the dough making bug.

  • Modeling tools
  • Beaded head pins
  • Various sized paperclips or coloured clips
  • Fine paint pens in white and black for painting eyes
  • Ribbon for hanging

Making coloured dough
Simply make the dough using less water than normal, leaving the dough slightly flaky. Then split the dough into sections. Add the paint to a  bowl and knead the paint into the dough. Wrap in cling film until it's to be used. Clean the bowl and  repeat with a different colour.

Top Tip
A marble board and rolling
pin will stop the dough sticking.

This is a great way to make models as the dough doesn't to need painted afterwards, so it's great for beginners, children or groups. The models dont even need to be varnish unless you want to keep them for a long time.

2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!

Perserving Your Model-Varnish and Storage.
Dough models need varnished to ensure they keep or they will get mouls. They can be kept for years if not kept in damp areas. They are not suitable for outside. They can be stored in airtight containers, and they can even be repaired  re-varnired to keep them looking their best.  Poyyurathane Varnish is the most suitable (matt or Silk) or yought varnish. Spay varnish will make the model damp.
